(Del Norte, CO) – Three Barrel Brewing has a trio of sour beers that it has developed under the Penitente Canyon Ales collection.
The first of these was Hermano 2012, released at the end of July. Next up is Chimayo 2011 which could be released by month’s end, if ready. Morada 2012 will finish out the set tentatively late fall/early winter. Both Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus are used to make the beers.
“Barrel monkey,” William Kreutzer, says they are being sold at the brewery, distributed in Durango at Star Liquors, Pagosa Springs at Silver Dollar Liquors and hopefully soon in Salida at Roxy’s Bottle Ship and/or Jug Liquors.
“Additionally, we have big plans to release a number of beers to the front range in Denver at Mondo Vino in the Highlands,” says Kreutzer.
The sours are available exclusively 375ml bottles with Cherry Wood Veneer labels and copper metallic wax. A representative from BP sponsor, Prime Package & Label, LLC, calls the label material the most unique on the market.
Says Kreutzer, “We do plan a few very limited releases of some special reserve sours in a 500ml cork/cage bottle, possibly one this fall. The only ‘draft’ of the sour ales will be at beer festivals we attend.”
Four more sour ales are planned for the Penitente Canyon Ales collection to be released over the next two years.
