Tröegs update: LaGrave up first in 375ml series, Scratch series, new bottle filler (video)

Tröegs LaGrave Triple Golden Ale label

(Hershey, PA) – Tröegs Brewing had a jam-packed newsletter on Tuesday in which a new beer was announced. More below…

Our 12- and 22oz. bottle filler is fully functional and bottling has resumed. In addition, we have taken delivery of our cork and cage filler, which will allow us to fill both 750- and 375mL bottles and expand our limited releases in conjunction with our barrel-aging program. For our customers, this means more Splinter beers as well as a new series of 375mL bottle releases (see details below)!

Check out the video below of our new 12- and 22-oz. bottle filler in action.

Tröegs LaGrave, the first of our corked and caged bottle releases, is inspired by nature’s untamed beauty. Bottle conditioned and highly carbonated, this Triple Golden Ale is steeped in the tradition of strong ales originally brewed in Belgium. The unique Belgian yeast, which is fermented at a slightly higher temperature than normal, forms the bedrock of LaGrave’s complex flavors. Strong and alluring at 8% ABV, LaGrave boasts a sweet, fruity flavor with a well-rounded mouthfeel and semi-dry, lingering bitter finish. LaGrave will be available in 4-packs of 375mL bottles in our General Store as well as select retailers throughout Pennsylvania only. Tentative release date is mid-October.

With the arrival of our new cork and cage filler and the constant growth of our barrel-aging program, LaGrave will serve as the base beer for a variety of future Splinter Series releases. “LaGrave is a seed that will grow in many different directions,” says John Trogner. “We’re excited to see where it takes us!”

Our fall seasonal, Dead Reckoning Porter, is now available in 12-oz. bottles and 1/2-barrel kegs throughout our entire eight-state distribution footprint. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, followed by a rich, smooth cocoa mouthfeel.” Since we still have plenty of time left in the grilling season, you can pair Dead Reckoning with a variety of BBQ and smoked meats as well as roasts and blackened fish. Dead Reckoning is also part of our Anthology #2 variety case, which also includes Tröegs Pale Ale, HopBack Amber, and DreamWeaver Wheat.

Fall is an insanely popular time of year for beer releases, and our brewers have been tirelessly brewing up a horde of new Scratch beers over the past few weeks for your imbibing pleasure.

After a soft release at August’s “Full Moon Firkin” event, Scratch #111 – HopCyclone Harvest Ale has hit our draft lines in the Tasting Room. The bold hop bill starts with Columbus and Crystal hops for bittering. We then further intensify the aroma by adding plenty of whole flower Mt. Hood hops to our hopback vessel. Finally, we apply a healthy dose of Galaxy and Motueka hops via our HopCyclone during dry-hopping to push this beer over the edge. The result is an aggressive IPA-style Harvest Ale with plenty of lip-smacking juicy hop goodness and a tinge of dry spiciness due to the addition of a small percentage of rye malt. Scratch #111 is also available in cases, six-packs, and single bottles through our General Store.

Next up is our annual Fest Lager to commemorate the German tradition of Oktoberfest. Although it boasts more of a hop presence than most Festbiers, Scratch #112 still maintains the classic malt character that you’ve come to expect from the style. Scratch #112 is currently available on draft in our Tasting Room as well as in cases, six-packs, and single bottles through our General Store.

Scratch #113 – IPA, another interpretation of a Session IPA, is now available in our Tasting Room. An exercise in minimalism, we brewed this session-strength IPA with just two hop varieties and one type of malted barley. Although we kept ingredients to a minimum, Scratch #113 packs maximum flavor and aroma. The one-two punch of Cascade and Centennial hops delivers a fresh citrus-forward aroma and clean, bitter grapefruit finish. Scratch #113 is available on draft only.

Finally, look for our annual Fresh Hop Ale in the next few weeks. As usual, we will release this enduring fan favorite on draft in the Tasting Room and in bottles through our General Store.
