One of our favorite beers has returned! Alaskan ESB will be available January – March as our Spring Seasonal Release. ESB has been decorated with awards for its exceptional balance. Cascade and Centennial hops find perfect harmony with premium two-row, specialty Crystal and Pale malts. It might just be the beer your taste buds were made for.
The imagery on the label honors the single engine de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, produced between 1948 and 1967 to meet the demand for a versatile plane able to make short takeoffs and landings in rural areas. Engineers warned this would lead to low cruising speed, to which one pilot replied, “You only have to be faster than a dog sled.” Whether fitted with wheels, skis or floats the Beavers remain the workhorse of the Alaskan backcountry, connecting communities to vital resources and Alaskan beer.

Alaskan Hopothermia Double IPA
This beer debuted in Alaskan’s draft-only Rough Draft Export series in the fall-winter 2012 season and will make its way to six-packs and wider draft availability in January. The beer just came off of the bottling line so look for it very soon.
Background
Alaskan’s second release in the draft-only series, Alaskan HOPothermia, is a bold and brrrrly Double IPA. Nugget and Apollo hops added in the brew kettle provide a green, floral aroma and citrus hop base, while the later addition of Amarillo, Citra, and Centennial hops add notes of spicy grapefruit and orange – complimenting the resilient malt profile. This beer is an outstanding, full-flavored representation of the American Double IPA style with an intense malt body resting in easy harmony with big, drinkable American hop character.
Alaskan Hopothermia Double IPA Brewer’s Notes:
Alaskan Hopothermia is a local Rough Draft favorite that’ll make you shiver with excitement. This intense, yet balanced Double IPA is a favorite beer to sip on the long Alaskan evenings. A robust malt body supports a generous suite of five American hop varieties. Alaskans are proud of their ability to withstand the extremes that are part of life in the last frontier, so layer up and get ready to lower your core temperature with a pint of Alaskan Hopothermia!
This fearless Double IPA pairs well with the big flavors of Thai food, gourmet pizzas, sharp cheeses, and bitter green salads.

Starting in January you’ll find our newest Rough Drafted Export Series beer, Taku River Red. This beer has been described as a “hop explosion,” and includes Apollo, El Dorado, Summit, Meridian, Centennial AND Citra hops. Four different caramel malts balance this beer and give it a rosy hue that inspired us to name it after a river vital to Southeast Alaska’s fish population. We bet you’ll be hooked too.
Ingredients:
Glacier-fed water, 4 different Caramel Malts, and Apollo, El Dorado, Summit, Meridian, Centennial and Citra hops.
Brewer’s Notes:
Our salute to a vital river drainage near Juneau that attracts a wide variety of adventurers and wildlife to its abundant surroundings, this flavorful brew holds discovery around every corner. With a wide variety of hops added throughout the brewing process, Taku River Red Ale has as many twists and turns in its flavor profile a wild Alaskan river.
The Taku River stretches hundreds of miles from its source in British Columbia to Taku Inlet just south of Juneau, Alaska. The Taku River System is the largest producer of salmon in Southeast Alaska, and all five species of Pacific salmon—Chinook (King), Sockeye (Red), Coho (Silver), Chum (Dog), and Pink (Humpies) — spawn in this 7,000 square-mile watershed each year.
Alaskan Taku River Red Ale is a sessionable salute to the Alaskan Imperial Red Ale, first released in December of 2012 in the Pilot Series. Similar citrus notes of chamomile, grapefruit and Meyer lemon brighten the minty and herbal aroma. A zesty array of hop flavors particularly Meridian meld with the nutty, roasted caramel from the brew’s six malt build.
