App Delivers Wine/Beer Recommendations by Taking a Picture of a Menu

Product Summary:

SipSnapp is an app for people who drink wine or beer. The App does two things for people who want to buy a drink at a bar or restaurant.

First, with SnipSnapp you can get ratings for each item on a wine/beer list by simply taking a picture of that list. It takes less than a minute, saving the user time and effort.

Second, armed with your past ratings of other wine/beer, SipSnapp recommends wine/beer from the menu that you are more likely to enjoy – sort of like a Netflix for beer and wine except, way more fun we think.

About Us:
SipSnapp is based in Culver City, CA. We are three engineers and Dan Ho, our product/business leader. The engineers have all worked together in the past and are currently work for Google, eBay and a small startup in Los Angeles. The team has built high volume systems in search, machine learning and recommendations – so this app plays to the strengths of the team.

We are raising some funds through KickStarter and currently are entirely self-funded.

How we got started:

Started in Nov 2013, SipSnapp is the brainchild of Dan Ho. Dan loves beer but is generally intimidated by wine lists – so he rarely goes near the stuff. One day Dan and his friends were at a restaurant and were given a beer list that looked more like a wine list – there were over 40 beers on this menu. (The explosion of the craft brewing industry has made it such that we are starting to see more and more interesting beer menus with increased diversity and selection. This is something great to have, but also might cause some to skip the beer altogether in the confusion.) Encouraged by his wife (“If you love beer so much, why don’t you build a beer app?”), Dan set out to build an app that would help make craft beer and wine more accessible to people of all backgrounds and interests.
