Brooklyn Brewery to announce new brewery project in Asia (video)

Brooklyn Brewery logo(Brooklyn, NY) – The Brooklyn Brewery co-founder, Steven Hindy, joined a panel that included New Belgium Brewing Co. co-founder, Kim Jordan, and Brewers Association president, Charlie Papazian back in late April at the New York Public Library.

Though much of the discussion centered around the world of small brewers as a whole versus either of the companies represented, Hindy did drop this little nugget during the talk:

[Brooklyn Brewery] will be announcing an Asia project in the next few weeks but I can’t do it tonight.

We opened the brewery in Sweden a month ago and we have a similar thing that I think will come to light in the next few weeks.

We are very excited about that. We have been selling beer in Asia for quite some time and it’s very difficult to get it there in good condition because of the Panama Canal, shipping and Customs; it is very difficult to get it there fresh.

That Sweden brewery is a joint effort with Carlsberg, a company that Hindy spoke highly of earlier in the discussion citing its charitable efforts in arts and sciences. Carlsberg also happens to have some operations in Asia though any connection to Asia would be pure speculation at this point.

No announcement from the brewery yet but more to come soon…

Note: the mp3 link is available here for those who experience too much buffering in the video. There is some light banter around “Craft vs. Crafty” and the “craft” size threshold among other things.
