“Stone Bill” heads to Governor after South Carolina legislators vote 139-1 to pass

stone brewing logo(Columbia, SC) – South Carolina legislators spoke loud and clear on Wednesday. They want Stone Brewing Company’s business and that of any other prospective small breweries.

According to Beer of SC, the Senate adopted the Stone Bill conference committee report (final bill link) by a vote of 43-1 and the House of Representatives adopted by a vote of 96-0. The Senate roll call vote tally was not yet available as of Wednesday afternoon.

The bill loosens regulations for breweries that want to grow up to 500,000 barrels while still conducting operations similar to those of brewpubs.

It now goes to Governor Nikki Haley for signature and looks like a slam dunk.

Though Stone’s request for proposal for an East Coast satellite brewery was the impetus for the legislation, Stone provided a statement on Tuesday that it had not yet “made a decision as to where our East Coast brewery will be located.”
