What happens when a beer festival can’t legally identify breweries at its event

Whats Brewing Norway poster

What’s Brewing, a craft brewery beer festival in Norway, found out a bizarre quirk in Norwegian law that prevents it from identifying other craft breweries attending its event. More below via Facebook

Dear followers of Whats Brewing.

We have just had a very informative meeting with an official from the Norwegian state. In this meeting we have understood the following:

We are not allowed to tell you (on any platform) which breweries are attending the festival. We can tell you that we consider them to be world class craft breweries. We futher more believe that we are in our right to inform you that breweries such as Rignes, Hansa, Carlsberg etc. will NOT be attending our festival.

This is the law.

Hey! It’s not like Norway is alone on this, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen have similar laws.

No updates from What’s Brewing since to indicate that the situation has changed.
