Press Release:
(Durango, CO) – Ska Brewing is announcing the Winter release in its Seasonal Stout series: Hibernal Vinifera Stout, an oak-aged foreign stout brewed with Malbec grapes. The beer—in keeping with the series’ solstice and equinox release dates—will hit shelves on December 21st, the date of the winter solstice. This is the third year for both Vinifera and Ska’s Seasonal Stout Series, which features a different canned stout for each of the four seasons.
“It’s been a lot of fun brewing the seasonal stouts with such a crazy array of ingredients,” said Ska Head Brewer Thomas Larsen, “but while the other three season’s stouts can almost qualify as dessert beers, the Vinifera is a standout for me because the Malbec grapes and roasted malts make it hearty enough to hold up to Colorado’s plunging cold winter temperatures.”
The Hibernal Vinifera Stout weighs in at 8% ABV and pours black with a thick tan head. The flavor is coffee and dark roasted grains, with dark fruits, caramel and subtle oak, and a dry, vinous finish.
The packaging for the Hibernal Vinifera Stout, pictured below, features a black, 12-oz. can with Ska’s True Blonde character as the Sumerian goddess of grapes and the cold season, Ngeshtin-ana. As with all four of the stouts in the Seasonal Stout series, the beer will be released in cans and on draft, and distributed in all of Ska’s markets.
