[Press Release:]
(San Francisco, CA) – The pinnacle of craft beer in Northern California is now upon us with the top-tier regional invitational festival, the SF Beer Week Opening Gala, taking place this Friday, February 10 at Piers 48 in San Francisco, CA. The Opening Gala will spotlight flavor-driven brewing innovations glass by glass, and this year marks an unprecedented unveiling of 19 unique collaboration beers onsite at the Gala and 11 more collaborations at release events throughout SF Beer Week. 16 additional collaboration beers will be featured from pro brewers and homebrewers at the Sirwisa Pro Hops For Housing Charity Event. Upwards of 900 events are taking place over 10 days of SF Beer Week festivities, and the region’s finest brewers are joining forces to make sure their collaboration beers take center stage.
The San Francisco brewing community innovates together, cooking up collaboration beers with colleagues near and far, for the camaraderie, the creative challenge, or just to mix things up. Much of the modern brewing community shares these traits, passed along by early craft brewers. In the face of growing competition, brewers continue to cooperate and brew together to present some of the most exciting specialty beers on the market.
As tradition dictates, the thirty-plus members of the San Francisco Brewers Guild have once again teamed up to brew a brand new collaboration beer for SF Beer Week 2017: New Frontier (5.3% ABV) is a postmodern Kölsch style ale with satsuma and evergreen. Medium in body and bright in flavor, New Frontier is a new-world interpretation on a classic Kölsch style. Japanese satsuma provides notes of zesty citrus, while Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir lends a light pine aroma to the finish.
A balance of old-world tradition and modern technique, New Frontier embraces the 2017 spirit of innovation, ingenuity and discovery. Specialty ingredients for New Frontier are donated by Whole Foods Market, while Brewers Supply Group provided the malt and hops, and White Labs provided the yeast.
“Whole Foods Market is proud to have helped connect the San Francisco Brewer’s Guild to great local produce to use in this year’s collaboration brew,” says Taylor Cathala, Regional Beer Buyer, Whole Foods Market. “It was exciting to see the brewers take such a bold approach to combining ingredients you may not expect to see together. The satsumas come from the Fresno area, and the Douglas fir tips come from our partners at Juniper Ridge, who go out on foot to harvest and distill wild mountain scents and ingredients from all across Northern California.”
New Frontier marks the first San Francisco Brewers Guild collaboration beer to be canned and distributed to retail as well as select bars throughout the Bay Area. Brewed at Fort Point Beer Company, New Frontier debuts at the SF Beer Week Opening Gala on February 10, 2017. For additional information on New Frontier, please visit sfbeerweek.org/collab
In advance of the Opening Gala, the San Francisco Brewers Guild announced today the singular collaboration craft beer list to be featured at Pier 48 on February 10. Below is a comprehensive list of these new collaboration beers coming to the Opening Gala as well as collaborations launching at regional SF Beer Week events. About San Francisco Brewers Guild
The San Francisco Brewers Guild formed in 2004 as a non-profit 501(c)(6) during a renaissance in American craft brewing. Our mission is to restore and preserve San Francisco’s brewing heritage and unite those who make local beer with those who love it. The Guild achieves this by educating the public about craft beer, organizing and hosting events such as SF Beer Week, Brews on the Bay and Meet the Brewers, advocating for the craft beer industry in city government, donating services and product to local charities, and partnering with artisan producers in the food, beverage, hospitality and agricultural industries.
