Super Friends IPA Collaboration debuts this weekend at BCTC

SF_IPA_TapMarker(Ithaca, NY) – Earlier this summer, a collaboration of epic proportions formed in New York. This weekend, the resulting beer will debut.

Phil Leinhart from Brewery Ommegang, Scott Vaccaro from Captain Lawrence Brewing Co., Casey Hughes from Flying Fish Brewing Co., Phil Markowski from Southampton Publick House, Jeff “Chief” O’Neil and Eric “Hutch” Kugeman from Ithaca Beer Co., and special guest Steve Altimari, formerly of Valley Brewing Co. in Stockton, California, got together last month in Ithaca to brew an IPA.

According to O’Neil, Super Friends IPA will debut at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown this Saturday. This is a Single Hop IPA featuring Citra and was fermented entirely with a proprietary blend of strains of Brettanomyces

“One would suppose based on the all-brett fermentation that it would be funky, but it’s a pretty remarkably clean (still young, of course) and crisp IPA with a slightly phenolic edge. I’m thrilled with how it finished,” says O’Neil.

Availability will be (very) limited to only on-premise accounts and only on draft (most likely New York State only). Ithaca Beer Co. will have some available for growler fills in the brewery’s retail store starting next week after the Brute rush dies down.

“We’ve got a few barrels full (apple brandy, French oak white wine, and CLBC Smoke From the Oak Wine) aging in the brewery that will start to appear at events this fall . . . think NY Beer Week.”
